Big Cat by Ann Wood

2013     17 inches x 19 inches x 1 inches

Big Cat is a painting on paper with a slight surface relief on the violin and the folded paper corners which frame the edges. Like other artists today, I'm drawn to personal, metaphorical contempory fairy tales.

Here a large blind cat gently touchs a girl on her shoulder who is playing a violin. Her song attracts a small herd of rabbits which listen ears perked to the melondy. I've almost always had animals in my life and I've found them to be intune to the smallest nuances of mood and change. Set in an island of minimal detail, they are drawn to the sound of the music.

Tiny homes dot this landscape of other worldy delights. The golden sky and water merge for an overall warm effect which surrounds both the sweetness and darker mystery that embodies this piece.
