Gentle Planting by Ann Wood
2009 21 inches x 18 inches x 1 inches
Constructed from small sticks with paper glued on the surface, this piece evokes the mystery of regeneration. The female figure is outside, bare feet touching the ground, embracing the wonder of this plant. The male figure reflects the delicate nature of the activity. She is inward and he is outward thus blancing the energy of this moment.
This piece is a painting I have decided to keep for my own collection. It hangs in my dining room and I look at it often. It combines so many of my loves: the earth, clothing, texture and pattern. I model and photograph most of the clothing for my paintings. I also take particular care in the drawing of the hands and feet on all of the figures. When I first start constructing a figure, I paint the eyes.
